Memorial Day (a little late)

This weekend my precious child got to go swimming for the very first time.
I definitely have a water baby on my hands.
Here are some lovely pictures for your enjoyment...

Usually I post on Memorial Day, thanking those who serve and the families left behind by those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.  Of course, I extend that thanks again this year and am so proud to be an Army wife.  I strive to extend that thanks every day.  Our military should get more than a couple of days a year of appreciation.  They deserve our unwavering support and gratitude.  So thank you...

Veteran's Day

So I'm pretty late with this post but I guess its normal to get behind with a newborn.
On Facebook I am friends with the U.S. Army page.  Well, on Veteran's Day a thread was posted on their discussion board about a gentleman who was told he wasn't a veteran because he is still currently serving, despite his fourteen years of service and multiple deployments.  And yes, he has been deployed to combat zones.  To some a veteran is someone who has been honorably discharged from the military, to others a veteran is someone who has served in a combat zone or served during a time of war.  To me, current military should also be celebrated and remembered on Veteran's Day.  Just because they are still serving, does not mean that their sacrifices aren't worth being thankful for.  I can't imagine someone telling my husband that he is not a veteran.  And the person's reason for why the gentleman wasn't a veteran?  Because he is still drawing a government paycheck.  The confusing part is that when someone retires from the military they still draw a "government paycheck".  To me that means he doesn't think that retired military are veterans either.  I can't imagine how the man felt standing there, being told that his service didn't count yet.
Regardless of your definition of a veteran, I hope that everyday you are thankful for our past and present military.  They deserve more than just one day.  They are willing to put their life on the line for our freedom and comfort and many have paid the ultimate price already.  Please remember all military personnel and their families in your prayers daily.  And to all past and present military, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

This day...

On September 11, 2001, when the World Trade Center was hit by those planes, I had no idea what impact it would have on my future.  I remember how sad and shocked I was but as a twelve year old, the severity and meaning of that day was not something I understood.  Now nine years later, I sit here writing this post as an Army Wife.  That day has turned into a long war against terrorism.  My husband has served in Iraq in an effort to fight this war.  I now at least partially understand the sacrifice.  I thank those who have fought to protect our freedom and I pray for the families who have lost a loved one either on that memorable day or in the nine years since.  Their ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Memorial Day.

Today is a day that is observed to remember and in essence celebrate those who have fallen in the line of duty for our country and our freedom.  "Thank you" is simply not sufficient for the price they paid for us.  The families of these fallen men and women have also paid an extreme price and deserve remembrance as well.
I would also like to thank those who have served our country and returned safely to us.  Whether retired or still serving, home or far away, every day you are willing to put you life on the line for the same idea that our fallen gave their lives for.  You, hopefully, believe that you can improve the condition of our world because I believe in you.
And to my dear husband, I am very proud to be your wife.  I am thankful for our God who brought you home safely but we do not know what the future holds.  It is a risk we know and are willing to subject ourselves to.  I thank you for serving our country and I am proud to stand behind you and stay behind at home.  I can only hope that Emy and any future children are as proud of you as I am.  Thank you my dear for allowing me to join you in this life, even in the not so great moments.

A Day to Remember...

[9-11]
Today is a day to remember.
Remember the horrible attack on our country eight years ago today, the people who died, the families who lost a loved one, the first responders who lost their lives trying to help, and all of the soldiers both past and present. As an army wife I have a whole new appreciation of the sacrifices our military make. Please remember them in your prayers daily, not just holidays.
Life is fragile, I believe God is the only one careful enough to be in charge of it.

memorial day.

today i want to take the time to thank our past and present military for their service and sacrifice. today is memorial day. a day that the government has set aside for the entire nation to pay their respects. but for me the meaning of this holiday is something i experience daily. my husband is currently overseas in iraq. i know what it is like to be the person waiting at home while a loved one is risking his or her life. i am so proud of what my husband is doing and feel honored that God found me worthy to be an army wife. yesterday was truly an honor. every time i would walk up and thank a soldier at church for their service, they would thank me for mine. it was a humbling experience for me. it is super easy for me to put all the focus on hubby. i really don't feel like i am doing anything. hubby's sacrifice and service deserves honor and respect. to me, my service and sacrifice is nothing compared to his. my life is not on the line. i am safely at home, just a little lonely from time to time. the troops are always at the top of my prayer list. so from the bottom of a lonely army wife's heart...thank you for all you have done and will do. you mean more to me than you will ever know.
