WoF Christmas Carnival Day 6: My Funniest Christmas Memory

To continue with the blog carnival, today I am supposed to ponder my funniest Christmas memory. When I think back through the years, there is one Christmas that sticks out to me more than any other. Its not what some would consider a favorite but it taught me at an early age that I really could ask my mom anything and she would answer to the best of her ability and honestly. My mom and I have always had a really open relationship and I feel that this particular Christmas had something to do with that. Now for the story...
WARNING: This Might Upset Those That Believe In Santa!
I was six years old and it was Christmas Eve. We had made the trip to Oklahoma yet again and were celebrating with my mom's side of the family as usual. We celebrated with my dad's side of the family on Christmas day. Well we were in the middle of opening presents when I decided I had a question for my mom. I walked up to her and with no warning asked, "Is there really a Santa?" She looked around to make sure that my little cousins weren't paying attention and simply said No. This sparked a chain reaction in my little brain. "Is there an Easter Bunny?"...No..."Is there a tooth fairy?"...No. Now my little brain is turning. "So if there isn't a Santa, then who is he?"...My mom say "I am". "Who is the Easter Bunny?"...I am..."Who is the tooth fairy?"...Now that is your dad. I think my mom was bracing herself for a melt down but instead my reply to all of this potentially devastating information was simply, "Oh okay" and I sat back down and continued opening my presents.
Most children and parents dread the day that those childhood fantasies come crashing down. And some families choose not to entertain them at all. But I think that when my mom and I passed that milestone, it was a wonderful growing point in our relationship, even at my young age. And it remains one of my most memorable Christmas'. I just hope you all find it humerous.
